Sept. 2 is the date Stanford Rapist Brock Turner is due to be released from jail. CNN reports that “Widespread outrage has erupted over a California judge’s decision to give a former Stanford University swimmer a six-month jail sentence for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman. In response, Hope Rising will be organizing a vigil on September 2, 2016 to stand in solidarity with ALL victims of sexual assault. This event is not a protest. It is a vigil and a show of support for those who have been impacted by sexual violence.
The vigil will start at 5 pm and will be held on the west lawn of the McKinney Performing Arts Center.
During the vigil, we will share the Stanford victim’s impact statement as well as other open letters and writings that appeared in response to this case.
Please join with us as we stand together to foster awareness, spur change, and end sexual violence.
Together, we can make a difference!
